2024 Alumni Board

Meet Kristen

Kristen has served with the VBMA Alumni since its inception in 2017 and continues to be the liaison between the student national board and the Alumni Committee. Saying Kristen is passionate about VBMA is an understatement. In veterinary school, she was her chapter’s president and then was on the national board as a Regional Leader for a year and the National VBMA President in 2012. She has since spoken to many VBMA chapters and been a co-advisor under the guidance of Dr. Jim Wilson since 2015. Her favorite part of VBMA is connecting colleagues with resources to thrive in their personal and professional goals.

Kristen is a 2013 graduate of Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and 2023 graduate of Boise State University’s College of Business for her MBA. She currently practices in a small animal practice outside of Boise, ID where she lives with her son, husband, loud stubborn hound and beloved kitties. Outside of giving back to the VBMA and practicing full time, Kristen enjoys running, going to parks (both National, state and local)  with her family and enjoying the outdoors in remote areas of the northwest.

Meet Ashlee

Dr. Ashlee Redmond earned her undergraduate Animal Science degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and her DVM from Washington State University in 2006.  She is passionate about leadership development, coaching and mentorship.  She loves to be side by side helping to teach surgery, client communication, improve team engagement and training, and discuss case work up.  She has been a multi-unit hospital leader for over 13 years.  She recently transitioned to a new role as Director Medical Special Projects helping to lead initiatives and provide medical perspective to Petco.  Dr. Redmond is a native to San Diego.  She is married to Alan and they have twin girls who are five years old.  They adopted a lab mix rescue from Baja named Mollie who likes to eat the girl's barbie dolls and stuffed animals (perfect for a veterinarian’s pet) and a new kitty rescue named Luna.

Meet William

Emergency Medicine has been William's focus since graduation from TAMU in 2014.  He has transitioned now into founding and running his own locum business for veterinary hospitals, targeting specialty hospital ER services across multiple states.  He's fortunate to be utilizing his locum work to explore his passions of education and communication.  Identifying and practicing his simple goal of providing compassionate and collaborative care for animals while guiding pet parents towards an understanding.  His practice model aims to bring about a better educated pet owner resulting in a healthier pet, profession, and veterinarian which engenders a happier client and business.  While not engaging with clients he commits his time towards colleagues and staff, embracing the motto of, "Our profession must evolve and we evolve through collaboration."  He brings himself to balance through baking, soccer, gardening and running - recently completing his first ultra-marathon!

Meet Ryan

Ryan Gibson, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology), a veterinary neurologist at Auburn University, specializes in educating students and practitioners to enhance care for neurological patients. His teaching focuses on foundational neuroscience, applications in clinical neurology, and microanatomy, while he also offers online consultations for veterinarians via stratocyte.com and VOCN. These consultations often address issues such as seizure management, various neurological conditions, and palliative care for degenerative diseases. Through these consultations, Dr. Gibson aims to serve a population of pets that traditionally may not have access to specialist-level care and support veterinarians on challenging cases. Dr. Gibson collaborates with researchers on projects exploring new treatments for neuropathic pain, studying the aging of the neurological system across species, and seizure therapies. He is the founder of Pet Parent Educators, which aims to increase client education following the diagnosis of chronic conditions such as seizures and diabetes and through various life stages.
